Within the framework of the SPACE Project, NGO New Horizon delivered a three-day Community Workshop on Youth-Led Change, Public Space, and Civic Engagement from 27–29 April 2026 in Ulcinj, Montenegro. The workshop aimed to equip young people with the knowledge, skills, and practical tools needed to become active contributors to more inclusive, accessible, and community-oriented public spaces.
The workshop brought together young participants in a collaborative learning environment that combined theoretical sessions, group discussions, and hands-on community action. Throughout the programme, participants explored the principles of youth participation, the right to the city, and the importance of creating inclusive public spaces that respond to the needs of diverse users. They reflected on local challenges and exchanged perspectives on how young people can actively contribute to positive change in their communities.
The activity unfolded through three interconnected phases. On the first day, participants were introduced to the objectives and values of the SPACE Project and engaged in discussions on civic engagement and youth participation. The second day focused on inclusive cities and participatory placemaking, presenting examples of youth-led urban interventions and enabling participants to collaboratively develop ideas for local improvements. On the third day, participants translated their ideas into practice through a community action activity at the city’s local high school, where they worked together to paint and redesign outdoor benches, improving the quality and attractiveness of the shared space. The process concluded with reflection sessions, documentation of the implemented actions, and a collective evaluation of the experience.
By combining learning, dialogue, co-creation, and practical implementation, the Community Workshop transformed participants from learners into active agents of change.
